FTP Storage & Historic Storage Backup for XVRs

NB: The firmware version is based on the latest version when this document was created and may slightly differ from future versions, however, this will not affect any of the functionality.

A Windows laptop or Desktop PC is required.

The recorder MUST be at least Version 4 or more recent for this guide to be relevant and work as the guide follows.

Setup FTP server

After downloading XAMPP Control Panel, navigate the menu and select a download location for the application and a language. Open and install the application.

Once completed, the following page should open.  Click Start, then Admin.

It may ask to connect to a server address. Click OK and proceed as normal without changing any settings.

Click here & proceed to click Add in the User section:

The username and password can be anything, 'test' was used for convenience and as an example.

Create or select a location for the recordings to be saved to.

For convenience of testing, a file called 'ftp' was created on the C:/ Drive, this is not recommended. If it fills up the OS drive, this will cause a variety of issues with your operating system and stability, Please take care.

Select the file where the footage and snapshots will be saved to.

Ensure ALL boxes are ticked, then click OK.

The computer IP address will need to be on the same network as the XVR.

This information can be gathered by doing Windows+R, then typing in "CMD", then enter.

Type "ipconfig" and then press enter.

The FTP server is now set up, running on IP address 192.168.15.162, as shown in the CMD window. The details may vary. The username and password are both "test" now to configure the XVR to set up the storage settings. 

XVR Setup and Connection

Once logged in, go to, Storage then FTP.

Change the setting from SFTP to FTP and type in the details as shown below. These include:

• Server address (your PC or Laptop IP address)
• Port (auto-filled)
• Username
• Password

Once these have been filled out, click OK or Save in the bottom right.

Click Test, and on the PC server application, there will be a connection test logs: 

The XVR is now talking with the FTP server on the PC or laptop. Next, set up the duration and channel we want to back up. 

For this example, footage was backed up for channel 1 every Wednesday between 3am and 6am.

Once the period has been set up, then click enable and save. 

Once these settings have been applied, the PC server will start receiving files from the XVR. 

Depending on network speed and stability, the file may take some time to copy from XVR to PC. 

The file being created on the PC for Channel 1, in Mainstream, from 3 am to 4 am being downloaded. Videos are split into 1-hour segments. 

To disable and stop receiving videos on the time intervals set, un-tick the enable box and save. All future backups of selected video exports will stop.
